What our clients say about us
I have known Curtis Ketner for over fifteen years now. He has renovated my cottage from top to bottom, built me a beautiful wrap around deck, even managed the Heritage Plaza for me during the time that I owned it. And recently, he (and his crew) assisted me with a cottage investment renovation project I decided to take on.
We first hired Curtis in 2007 to do some inside and outside work and found him to be conscientious, knowledgeable (about both old log and modern construction), and hard-working. He has recently completed a significant addition to our cottage (including a crawl space under the original log cottage and the addition),
This past summer, I decided to update my cottage which was beginning to show its years. An interview with Curtis convinced me that he was the man for the job and it was a very good decision! Curtis kept me informed in detail every step of the way. He recommended the sub trades and kept an eagle eye on their work,
I had an excellent experience working with Ketner Construction. It was a challenging project as we needed so many different things done. Our family cottage had been allowed to slide into terrible disrepair when we took it over in 2011. It needed major work as well as new docks, floors,
Curtis, where to start? Reliable, honest, and skillful. We have hired Curtis and his crew for large and small jobs over the last several years and have always been very satisfied with the results. From re-building and renovation to minor repairs, they have proven to be reliable, honest, skillful and resourceful.
I am a long-time cottage resident of the Minden area, and I have known and worked with Curtis Ketner (Haliburton Home Improvement) for over 15 years. We have a large property, cottage and lakefront that need regular maintenance, repairs and renovations. Curtis has looked after the property and buildings, undertaken cottage improvements,
We have known Curtis Ketner for over 25 years. During that time, his company, Haliburton Home Improvement & Repair, has completed many small and major projects for us. In every case, Curtis has shown pride and professionalism in his work. He sets high standards for himself and his men in carrying out a job.
Interview with the Owner
Q: What brought you to Haliburton over 30 years ago and why did you decide to settle here?
I spent over 12 years working construction in a big city, but my roots are in the country. When I came to Haliburton for a log building program at Blairhampton Alternative in 1981, I fell in love with Haliburton and the rest is history!
Q: In your opinion, what is the most common misconception that people have when planning an addition or work on their cottage?
Most customers would like to have the work done right away, but planning and good work takes time and the weather here can affect our productivity greatly.
Q: Tell us about a particularly challenging project that you have done recently and what obstacles it involved.
We recently raised a Scandinavian round log cottage that was built in the 30’s. We raised it,excavated it, put in a foundation, replaced all the main floor support logs, repaired the existing logs and chinking and added a 900 sq. foot addition to it.
Q: How has the construction business in Haliburton changed since you started working here 28 years ago?
It’s not seasonal cottage ownership anymore. Now a days, its year round usage people want because the cost of materials and labour has increased so much that they want to use their investment as much as possible.
Q: What is your number one priority in HCHI?
To make sure that we do quality work and succeed in giving our customers exactly what they want.
